End of June 2008 - Lake Constance

Well... things seem to get a little easier as every week goes by! I have eventually gotten used to driving on the wrong side of the road - no I havent driven on the wrong side by mistake yet! And I have gotten used to the supermarkets and lack of certain foods (marmite, Mrs Balls chutney, spray and cook)! There are a couple of things which I have absolutely gotten used to really quickly... Alex riding her bike in the road, getting into to bed and wondering if I have locked the front door... then realizing that it doesn't matter! oh... and I HATE ironing and cleaning... and Shaun HATES mowing the lawn.. and we both HATE garbage separation... EVERYTHING needs to be separated... we still have not gotten the hang of it... everytime Alex wants to throw something away she asks... the silver bin or the black one, or this one in the cupboard... poor kid is so confused!
Schoolwise alex is doing well... (as you can see pic above here she is about to walk to school on a cold day..). She has learnt to count in German (up to 10) and her vocabulary is improving every day. If she wants to get my attention and show me something she uses the german words.. Guck Mal(Look here)... She has learnt to ride a bike... in the street ..... except she cant use the break yet... so I need to run next to her so that she doesnt fly down the hilll!

RAVENSBURGER SPIELELAND - 20km's from Lake Constance

Ok.. so this past weekend we went to a place called Lake Constance... as I said before it separates Austria, Switzerland and Germany. It is really beautiful - we stayed at a place called Hagnua - really old town with loads of character! We stayed on the lake (we could walk down the stairs and put our feet in the water) and if we looked across the lake we could see the Swiss Alps!!!! It was really beautiful.
We spend our first day at a place called ravensburger spieleland - http://www.ravensburger.de/spielelandL/ (here is the website if you want to see).... this place is made for 3 year olds... Alex drove a tractor, rode a horse, went for a train ride, rode a bumper car (alone), drove a bumper boat, went on a boat ride, drove a digger and more.

Hagnau on Lake Constance
Anyway after much to much sun and heat we went back to the guest house. It was really old, but in a beautiful setting - see attached pic... Later in the evening we just walked around the lake front... it was really relaxing and quite beautiful. The second day we decided to take a ferry to Constance - we were staying in Hagnua. The trip should have taken us an 1 hour.
HOWEVER we dont understand german as a result, did not get off the one boat and onto the other so we ended up on another island called Manua - it is called the flower island. Anyway... we needed to go from manua back to Meersberg and board another boat to Constance... so we got to our destination about 2 and a 1/2 hours later!!!!! Alex was really patient.... Anyway... Constance is really busy - see attached pic. It was quite nice to simply walk in and out of all the shops... but by that stage we were a little too tired to actually buy anything!

At the end of a long day, we made our way home... was also really nice to be home! And that is the story of our travels this past weekend.
The coming weekend we will go to another theme park called Legoland (it is based on the Lego toys). Apparently it is really nice and a lot more to do than Ravensberger... and it is a lot closer so we can make a day trip. The one things which is awesome in Europe is the travelling... everything is really close so a day trip is OK! It is obviously cheaper (accomodation is really expensive here) and much easier in certain cases. This weekend we will go with friends (they have a 3,5 year old girl and a 1,5 year old boy... so Alex will have friends!!!!
